The turbocharger of most vehicles is basically close to the exhaust manifold, and friends can open the hood to take a look. Some cars have the exhaust manifold in the front and some cars have the exhaust manifold in the back.
The turbocharger consists of two parts, one is the intake turbine and the other is the exhaust turbine. The exhaust turbine is connected to the exhaust manifold. When the engine reaches the required speed, the exhaust gas has enough energy to drive the exhaust turbine to rotate. The exhaust turbine and the intake turbine are coaxially connected. After the exhaust turbine rotates, the intake turbine also starts to rotate, so that the intake turbine can compress the air and blow it into the cylinder.
Turbocharging technology can increase the amount of air into the engine without increasing the displacement of the engine, which will increase the power of the engine. I think turbocharging technology was first applied to aircraft engines. Turbocharging technology can solve the problem of insufficient air intake encountered by aircraft engines at high altitudes. The turbocharged engine needs an intercooler to dissipate heat for the intake air. During the process of pressurizing the air, the temperature of the air will rise. If there is no intercooler for the intake air to dissipate heat, it will seriously affect the normal operation of the engine. Some turbocharged engines use water-cooled intercoolers, and some turbocharged engines use air-cooled intercoolers. The heat dissipation efficiency of the water-cooled intercooler is higher.
